The Land Development and Governance Institute through support from ACT! implemented activities aimed at influencing parliamentary debate on the land bills (now Acts of Parliament) that were then on the floor of parliament. Activities inluded ;
- Publication of a cartoon supplement.
- Cocktail to launch LDGI’s Cartoon Initiative on land reforms.
The cartoon supplement on land reforms was published on all the local newspapers (the Daily Nation, the Standard, the Star, the People Daily and Taifa Leo) on the 18th of April 2012. This was facilitated by content provided by Kenyan cartoonists following earlier presentations on the land reform process and the key issues made to them in a breakfast forum hosted by LDGI. The supplement communicated some of the concerns LDGI wished to share with Parliamentarians. Comments from readers informed that this innovative presentation of key land reform messages was simple, interesting and more effective.
In an effort to promote working synergy between Cartoonists and land sector experts, the Institute convened a cocktail to formally launch the cartoon supplement at the Laico Regency on 19th April 2012.
The event provided social bonding and promoted dialogue and sectoral linkages likely to be helpful to land reforms in future. During the event, the cartoonists expressed willingness to continue promoting land reform through their work.
